On the 28th of Februray 2020, Wellspring College hosted the finals of the 4th Founder’s Football Competition at the school premises in Omole Phase II, Ikeja, Lagos.
The tournament was a five-day event which began on Monday the 24th and ended on Friday the 28th of February, 2020. Sixteen primary schools in Ikeja Local Government Area participated in knock-out matches leading to the finals which had four teams compete for the Cup.
The atmosphere was electrifying as students, parents, and supporters of each team cheered their players to victory. Role Model School team defeated fifteen other contestants to grab the prestigious Wellspring College Founder’s Cup. Carol school emerged second place clinching the silver medal, while Tomobid school came third.
Mubarack Ajilola was adjudged the best and the highest goal scorer at the competition; he scored a total of thirteen goals.
The Founder of the College, Mr. D.C Isimoya stated the need for students to participate in sporting activities, adding that sports boosts health and the capacity to learn.
He expressed his delight at the turn-out of the teams saying; ‘…the first competition which held three years ago had eight teams contesting and this year, we have sixteen teams. We are happy and honoured to provide a plaform for young talents to display their God given skill’.
The tournament came to a close with the award of medals to the deserving winners and closing remarks and prayers by the Founder.
