On Wednesday the 5th of November, 2019 our biology students visited the Bridge Fertility Clinic GRA ikeja. The Bridge Clinic is West Africa’s leading fertility clinic, known for its success in Assisted Conception. The objective of the excursion was to take learning beyond the four walls of the classroom and allow students gain better understanding of the various possibilities and techniques available in the area of human reproduction, outside the conventional methods.
The excursion kicked off with an introductory video by Alexander Forbes about the bridge clinic. This was followed by a presentation on assisted reproduction techniques and technology, facilitated by Doctor Bamidele Babatude. He encouraged the students to always be inquisitive and seek to provide solutions to man’s problems, Therein, he stressed, lay the ability to succeed of any business or career, especially in the field of medicine.
Students were divided into small groups and taken on a tour of the clinic’s facilities. This included the MediCenter , and more interestingly, the embryology laboratory where the In Virtro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) process take place. Embryologists Rashida Abimbola, and Archibong Agnese took students the students through the process, showed them samples and acquainted them with some of the equipment involved.
The event came to a close with a question and answer session, gift presentation, certificates of participation and refreshments.
